Don’t Miss the 2016-17 Quarterly A+ Network Webinar Series

Once again, A+ will offer a series of Network webinars this school year.  Each webinar offers updates, current news and happenings, DPI updates, school sharing and professional development for A+ administrators and educators.  All webinars take place from 4-5 p.m. eastern time and require pre-registration. Dates for this year's A+ Network webinars are: 9/8/16, 12/1/16, 3/2/17 and 5/4/17.

Congratulations to Amanda Gordon, 2016 Gerry D. Howell A+ Educator of the Year!

Amanda Gordon, visual arts teacher at A+ school Diggs-Latham Elementary in Winston-Salem, was named the 2016 Gerry D. Howell A+ Educator of the Year at an A+ network-wide webinar on Thursday, May 5. Ms. Gordon has taught at Diggs-Latham Elementary for the last 12 years. The award recognizes an A+ educator who best exemplifies the values of the A+ Schools Program and its philosophies.

A+ Partners with VIF to Develop Arts-Integrated Professional Development

The partnership between A+ Schools and VIF will foster teachers’ ongoing professional development as they discover how to enhance global learning while seamlessly promoting the arts across different subjects. In the first A+ Schools professional development module in VIF’s Learning Center, teachers will explore how to inspire global inquiry by introducing various art forms - dance, drama, music and visual arts - and how art’s common vocabulary provides a basis for global learning. This challenges educators to discover how the arts can enhance global learning in their classrooms.

A+ Schools Network Grows to 50 Schools!

Congratulations and welcome to New Bridge Middle School (Onslow County), North Graham Elementary (Alamance County), Townsend Middle School (Robeson County) and ZECA Charter School (Onslow County) who entered the A+ Network this summer, bringing the total number of A+ schools in North Carolina to 50!  We also congratulate and welcome Hunt Elementary in Sioux City, Iowa, who also became an A+ school this summer and will be a sister school for A+ school, Eugene Field Elementary in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  All of these schools’ staff completed their initial A+ Institute over the summer and a
